“To anyone thinking of doing an apprenticeship I say – go for it! Get some experience on a site first to find out what works best for your skillset, and then get your apprenticeship application in.”

Jannae Mason-Dennis, 24, former apprentice, now assistant site manager with Walter Lilly, Croydon

Become a tutor?

Pass on your skills and knowledge to the next generation of construction workers.

Work with an experienced, supportive team to deliver construction skills to apprentices. As a tutor, you’ll have the chance to share your expertise and help the next generation of construction professionals.

“I love working with the students, seeing them grow and develop really drives me. You can literally see the passion and determination they have to learn and succeed.”

About the Mayor’s Academy

The Mayor’s Construction Academy (MCA) aims to build a talent pipeline of workers, equipped with the skills to get good jobs in the construction sector.

Funded by a grant from the GLA, the SLP boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond and Sutton, along with neighbouring borough Wandsworth have joined forces to create an MCA Hub.  The Hub will work with construction employers to help find new job, apprenticeship and work experience opportunities for residents and work with training providers to make sure that residents have the right training to get the jobs.
